Do I need to offer a clue, or are you guys just busy? Confused

Hint: there is an indirect, round-about connection to the previous location--sort of.

I was guessing along the same line.   So it could be an (ex) British colony as well.

Checked all possibilities of former Dutch colonies in the tropics.  Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Surinam, Carribean islands, Malabar, Malaya, Southern Africa etc etc, but the architecture does not 'fit'.

Could it be Tongapatu (main island of Tonga) previously called Amsterdam ??

I enjoy stumping you guys, even if only for a while. Big Smile

But instead of identifying a place (that will come easier later) first focus on a person

Who would live in such a place? Sad  Dancing Banana

(Hint: he's not the same nationality as below)

    Well, I found it.....

It's the house of French painter Paul Gauguin, on Atuona (Marquesas Islands) French Polynesia

(I fail to understand the earlier hint you gave...)

    ---------

Only in 1 place you'll find this type of houses.  Where?  and what are they called ?

(Funky: I fail to understand the earlier hint you gave...)

Far away from the previous...but not always so far

I was trying to suggest that the person associated with that structure was originally not from there, as Gaugin was obviously European. Also, I was doing sort of a "six degrees of separation" in my mind, as Gaugin had once lived in Provence with Van Gogh, who was Dutch, hence the rather thin "connection" to Minger's Netherlands location. This is what happens when I try to be cryptic and instead it just becomes confusing. Smile

As for how you finally solved it, Funky: I'm curious, what made you think of Gaugin, was it my final clue that suggested someone seeking a primitive life? Good Job!

(anyone who wants to, feel free to solve his clue Confused)

    Funky's funky houses are

    THE TONGKONAN OF TORAJA

I actually found it on Flickr first by searching for "saddle roof house", a nice Indonesian gallery here

I'll take ya up on the offer, this one isn't too tough anyways, and appropriate for this time of year.

Not everyone's crazy like you - I meant holloween. No beer and no t.v. make Homer something somthing

Clue suggest it's another movie location? It reminds me of John Carpenter's Vampires, and it sticks with the horror theme of the previous location - but I haven't seen that movie in ages and having difficulty tracking down images to confirm or not. Help!

    "Don't mind if I do!"

You're on the right track about the movie...

Taking a step back for a sec...

The first thing I thought of when I read hobo's post was the hotel in The Shining, so I Googled it, but for some reason, Google images showed me something else, and I got sidetracked away from the right answer. I then thought those mountains looked a lot like the Black Hills of South Dakota, so I looked around for an older (reminds me of Mount Vernon style?) hotel that might be in the area, then gave up when I didn't find it. AngryI also thought the reference to "this time of year" may have meant Election Day=Presidents=Mount Rushmore, hence my quip about a "scary day." Embarrassed

Now, back to the show! Purple Elephant

Is it The Mission San Juan Bautista, location for a scene from

    Hitchcock's Vertigo ?Sad

And, it appears to not have the tower that appears in the movie which I saw several months ago.

This link explains the story of what happened to the missing tower Broken Heart
