     Some time ago I starte a thread and the thumbnail got postetd automatically.

    Is there a way to change it?

    A thumbnail is only generated by the first posted full gallery-link in a thread. Not all links generate a thumbnail though; that's a matter of just trying and finding out.  Only way to change a thumbnail is posting another link on top.  Single pic-links ending on .jpg never generate a thumbnail.
