Ever wish you could keep some of those classic Youtube vids? Here is a dandy little online tool...follow the link below and bookmark. Find a vid you want from Youtube the copy & paste the URL into the box provided. Now click "Get Download URL" wich will appear rather quickly. Just click on that or copy into a download manager. If your saved vid does not have a .flv extention, it is best to change it. Now that video is yours to play any time you want using any flash player.

Hi Gem,

sounds pretty cool, but where is the link/which link do you mean???

Regards

keepvid.com is the site I think he's talking about. works great.

before I ever found out about keepvid I would just go to the browser cache/temp. internet files (while the vid was still open) and copy the vid from there (its bound to be one of the largest files in the folder, sort them by size to bring it to the top) to a more permanent storage place.

That's pretty sweet Gem thanks! works even better than my firefox plugin... Anyhow for those of you looking for an all in one offline viewer/flv to mpeg converter check out this freeware! To convert just rename the destination video file to whatever.mpeg... I must admit, just finding this myself It's rather awsome.

Click Here to go to Download.com

On a further note, google's .FLV videos are mostly much better quality. So check out http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

The firefox plugin is available there as well.

everyone probly already figured this out but

as long as you can somehow dl the flv file

riva flv encoder will work the same way it does for youtube or google

only dif is the vid dl wont take the url so there would have to be the option to dl it from the site its on

I think the best Youtube trick is not to use it at all. It's pointless and it degrades quality.

Why not just use one of the many free hosting services to host a file? No loss of quality, easy direct links, etc, etc...

I have tried some of the ways mentioned here to "steal" YouTube vids, and for me the best/easiest has been DownloadHelper (it's an add-on for Firefox, and maybe IE too?). It allows you to DL not only videos but pretty much any streaming content you can find on the web such as music, pics, etc. The great thing about DownloadHelper is on many web pages it will allow you to download every thumbed picture at once! I get songs off Myspace all the time using this program...unless your some greedy record executive, in which case I'm lying Wink
