Floyd is crap without Waters is all I was saying, losing Gilmour wouldn't have been nearly as drastic on the overall sound. Waters is a one of a kind singer and bass player and Gilmour singing all of his songs was blasphemy imo. You make good points.

Anyways moving on....

One of my favorite overall musicians and people....the awesomely amazing Devin Townsend, and his band Strapping Young Lad.
Note that the drummer is none other than the legendary Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Death, Testament).

Here's a vid from Dimmu Borgir, (promo vids are usually awful, it's a prime requisite, so no fuckin' moaning. Not that anyone's watching them anyway).

They suffer a certain amount of loathing for not being 'true black', being melodic, having an orchestra, not being murderers, burning churches or fucking goats or sacrificing them for that matter. Hey I just like them for the music, isn't that the real point? Just a shame that one of my favourite drummers Nick Barker is no longer in their ranks. Rumours that he didn't have a catchy evil sounding name led to the others kicking him out of the band are false. I hope! That guy can rip a new asshole out of a drumkit.

Awesome Q! Yep Nick Barker is the man, the guy is like a machine. Along with Gene Hoglan (Strapping Young Lad), Flo Mournier (Cryptopsy), and Derek Roddy (Hate Eternal) he is my favorite of the extreme drummers. But have no fear, the drummer on the new Dimmu CD will be Hellhammer from Mayhem. And Nick is still working with Lock Up and Old Man's Child.
I was just up at the NAMM show in LA and ran into David Vincent talking to Eric Rutan, so I talked to Eric about the new Cannibal CD that he produced and lol I told him that I had heard some pre-release cuts online and he said and I quote "What the fuck?? Those songs are already online?? I just finished mixing them like 2 days ago!!"
Vincent just stared at us, he is kinda a prick anyways. LOL @ Genitorturers. Anyways the new Cannibal is going to be massive.

Ah yes, Children of Bodom, purveyors of fine widdlesome fret wankery.

Owing to the attention deficit thread I can't recall whether you're in a band or not, but you've obviously got the ears of the metal fraternity, (and David Vincent). Mind you I've got Cristina Scabbia coming round for tea and biscuits later in the week. I've got things to do but I don't like to be unsociable.

Talking about Rutan and Vincent makes me think of Morbid Angel and whether Trey Azagthoth will ever come up with anything good again, afraid I've been mightily disappointed with the last two efforts.

Anyway it's about time I posted a Nile performance. Love everything about this band, brutality, speed invention, complexities, authentic 'exotic' instruments, Egyptian lyrics, ten minute + songs. Hard-working perfectionists that certainly in this country are holy cows of metal, a single hint of criticism and journalists burst into flame! Having said that I felt that their last album didn't hit the heights of In Their Darkened Shrines. Thought it was still top stuff though. Another band that have had their fare share of A grade drummers.

Well, I used to be a real fan of COB, but the new album kind of sucks. It's lacking almost everything that made the unique.

Anyway... here's the new Kataklysm video :

Thanks guys, and both Nile and Kataklysm were among the ten or so bands I had thought of recently to post videos from....so we are on the same wavelength. About Morbid----Trey is (or was) the man, and he will come up with pretty much whatever the new cd requires, and this is the problem. Seems like they switch gears every album now and I must say I agree, it's away from the right direction. Another thing is that I have seen a few newer interviews with Trey and/or David, and in all of them there comes a part where the guy asks "how is the Florida metal scene" or similar, and each of them go off with this big "there is no Florida metal scene!!, it's just us!!, we are the best metal band of all time and people will see....". And it's almost like they rehearsed saying this in every interview for whatever reason. I say if your cd's keep getting weaker, your attitude has to improve....not the other way around. One look at Genitorturers and you know where Vincent's head is nowadays. He never would have even considered playing for such a clown outfit years ago when Morbid ruled. But now, he obviously needs the money and this also shows in the direction Morbid is going as well. In their defense, they have been doing the same shit for many years now, so I can't blame them for wanting to branch out a bit. And even their sub-par newer stuff is still better than most of the current bands.

From Oz....The Berzerker. One of the most bizarre and shocking bands in the world and by far the heaviest masked band. These guys industrial/death metal/noize makes Shitknot™ sound like George Michael.

Thought they didn't do themselves any favours wearing masks because of the obvious comparisons and the feelings that it was all gimmick and no music. But they've proved those doubts wrong and dropped the masks into the bargain I believe.

Thanks for the vid rayniac, must admit I've always overlooked Kataklysm, there's just too many bands, so little money to spend on them. Sad [:(]

Here's a vid from Mastodon featuring another of my favourite drummers Brann Dailor. They can get slightly 'proggy' at times which I like. 'Hearts Alive', a 13 minute plus song from 'Leviathan' leaves me in an orgiastic mess on the floor.Big Smile [:D]

Cathedral, Green Carnation, In the Woods..., My Dying Bride, Opeth, Elend, Type O Negative, Ulver

I have to agree with all these, especially In The Woods... - good to see another ITW fan Thumbs up! [Y]
Also Cathedral. In Australia we don't get may of the bands I like coming here - but Cathedral came downunder for their Carnival Bizarre tour so I could not miss that one. The did a double bill tour with Paradise Lost so I was stoked!! Unfortunately when Cathedral were on stage there were about ten people at the stage front - everyone else was standing around at the bars watching (I were too - I were ripped at the time). I felt so bad for them, and paranoid as I was one of the few there wearing a Cathedral t-shirt, I had go in the pit - still got to see a fair chunk of their gig though ;) Lee Dorrian is one weird looking person on stage.

I'm a bit of a doom fan, though mainly the older 90's bands, been following doom since the beginning of My Dying Bride and Anthema, but I also get into a bit of the more mainstream metal or even rock too. Some of my favourite bands at the moment would have to be (the first few are probably my favourites, but the list is not really in an order)...

Anathema
Novembre (awesome band)
Muse (not "metal", but I love Muse, they rarely do a bad song)
Kyuss
In The Woods...
Cathedral
Tool
The Tea Party ('Transmission' is one of the best albums I've ever heard, it's not metal, but it was much more metal for them)
Opeth
Tiamat
My Dying Bride (Turn Loose The Swans is a classic album)
Apocalyptica
Metallica
Megadeth
Manowar (dont laugh Embarrassed [:$])
Damaged
Paradise Lost
Disembowelment
Pink Floyd

and I apologize, but yes I do like (and consider them metal, despite their popularity)...
Korn
Evanescence
Bullet For My Valentine (one of the better new metal bands for a while IMO)

Anthema - One Last Goodbye (live bootleg)

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8689972072039051894&q=anathema

This is one of the saddest songs I've heard, especially when you know the Cavanagh brothers wrote it to their Mother just after she had died. This live clip doesn't do it justice though...

Any Pink Floyd fans out there might get into Anathema's newer stuff too by the way.
Speaking of which, I have to agree with Fucktard - they were better with Roger Waters.

Manowar - Warriors of the World United (music video)

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2719240123326634156&q=manowar

ROFL! [ROFL] Classic! For those who don't know - Manowar are basically a living Spinal Tap. They signed their record contracts in their own blood (until one of them had to go to hospital), and were once in the Guiness Book of World Records for playing the loudest gig. This song is one of their newer ones, and not very good. I much prefer their older 8 minute epic songs - Guyanna, Bridge of Death, Gates of Valhalla, March for Revenge, Mountains etc. But still this one's good for a laugh!

Dennis Madalone - America We Stand As One (music video)

http://www.devilducky.com/media/28579/

Just thought it appropriate to have this in the same post as Manowar Wink [;)] - Dennis is the only person I've seen top Manowar for cheesiness. If you've not seen it, and want a laugh, it's a must see, and yes, he is serious too! Horrified [=8-@]

Here's a remix of the clip someone did too - the "America Fuck Yeah mix"...
