For me, in this day and age, why can't we get more medium-high res stuff. A lot of lo-res content which looks ok but is crappy quality.

I've been curious about this too. For video, my guesses are:
1. The bandwidth makes it cost-prohibitive.
2. Production companies don't want to release free high-res clips so you're forced to sign up and pay for the good stuff.
3. There's a lot more amateur, web-cam garbage flooding sites. Even on pic-only sites, there are way too many low-res selfies to wade through. Hate.

It's gotten so bad, I don't even bother with certain sites anymore. Beeg has some high-res stuff (720p), but the production companies they get their videos from is a bit more limited. That said, I'm now spoiled on high-res and don't even bother with sites like [edit: removed site name because I remembered it's banned here]. 

If you track porn back toward the start of the internet, it was pic-only and low quality because people were using slow modems. (Does anyone remember waiting forever as the pics downloaded line by line?) I found it hilarious that most of those early images were scanned pics from older magazines. Then came pics of internet-only models. As technology improved, there was nothing more than 10-30 second low-res video clips. Then you could get longer clips, but still low-quality. Finally, we can get higher-res clips that don't force you to wait for buffering. But yeah, there still doesn't seem to be enough available.

I wanted to write a rant on young newcomers that start pretty innocent with nude photograpy and suddenly do the big jump into porn with bleached hair and huge silicones, which is the (sad) story of Jessie Rogers. I then found out several hours after posting my comment that she has been in 93 vids in just one year and even retired. I thought, o gee that is fast! The "cinematography" that's been around for a few years where everything is almost completely white. They shoot the scene in front of huge windows where all this light comes in and washes everything out. Looks almost dystopian: THX1138 is the first movie that comes to mind.
