Interestingly, anonymity doesn't reduce the value of chat. It is a chat where anyone can make up their own name and say whatever they like. Nobody (who isn't a total idiot) uses it for secure communication.

Impersonation is possible, but it is always up to the reader, in the end, to choose what to believe. If you see guest_Vatsis and they claim to be Vatsis, you must make your own judgement.

Relevant information:
Chat doesn't have a "log in" function. You just choose a (non-unique) nickname. IPs are visible. Lurkers are invisible.

Changing pages forward and back is done with a javascript function . If your browser allows bookmarklets and thus typing javascript into the address bar, you can copy the javascript link from the page number links, and edit the number to the one you want. It starts counting from 0: page 1 is 0 and page 2 is 1, etc.

There is no guarantee you can get to page 86, CommunityServer doesn't like going so far back into the past just for you and would rather be lazy and hand you an Unknown Error instead. :P

In theory, a jump-to-page-x is easy to add (as either a UI mod or a user bookmarklet)

The paysite banners issue was fixed. 'Leak' may not be the most appropriate term, but it is the one I made up =)

A day or two ago, read/unread history totally broke down. Unread threads could not be marked read. Threads previously marked read are stuck as read. I lived with this, hoping it would fix itself. Today I discovered that my threads marked notify are all undone. And I cannot get threads to be on notify.

These two problems together lead me to believe that whatever is storing my user data mustve broken down and cannot be updated.

Clearing cookies, using a different browser, rebooting has been tried.

If you are trying to leech a place, I suggest Offline Explorer. It does URL generating as well as site leeching. It's not an URL extractor, so it doesn't give you a list of URLs back (in case you wanted to post them or something). However, it has a steep learning curve. Maybe too steep, if you just want to quickly grab a gallery.

Read/Unread History disappearing?

It seems that they don't disappear on their own. It happens whenever I access/refresh my PM page. Everytime I access/refresh, a bunch of read become unread. A few more refreshes and everything is wiped back to unread. I hope nothing is corrupted.

edit:
So I tested a bit. I got a lot of threads marked read, then immediately went to my PM page and refreshed. Yep, all of them went back to unread. Tried it again, same result.

Now I've read a whole bunch of threads, and have not looked at my PM page at all. So far so good.

Maybe this'll help in some way.

I saved the html for the first page of the Request forum. It was 83k. In the html, there's tons of whitespace that makes the code neat and indented but otherwise isn't useful. I removed it. File went from 83k to 70k. Then I tried it with the first page of the Queue and Nude Fanclub; 87k to 80k and 93k to 75k respectively.

I have post mouse-over popup enabled. Turning it off saves 5-6k.

I used the forum main pages because that's what I'm guessing people load and reload the most. Images, save the banner ad, are cached but the html is fetched every time. It probably makes little difference on a fast connection but that would not be me :P

Well.. even the banner is cached to a degree if you're on peachybbs enough hehe.
