Hello,

I've spent way too much time building my porn collection that I couldn't bear to see it lost to a bad hard drive.  Has anyone used any online back-up sites they'd recommend or ones to avoid?  I'd prefer free ones, but looking for any input.  Thanks in advance!

Most, if not all, backup-sites will not allow Porn/Hardcore/Nudity.

Why not, like most people, use external HD's, high capacity USB-sticks or burn your collection on CD/DVD's

Back up with an external H/D! They are so cheep now. I have a couple web sites and need a lot of space to store pictures and bought a Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB external H/D. It has more space than I could ever need and only cost around $160 USD.

Back up to CD[700MB]/DVD[4.2GB]/Blu-Ray[25GB].

This will require the appropriate optical drive and suitable media. Drives can be either mounted internally or externally [via USB2 or FireWire] 

No other option has so few risks.

Hard drives ALL fail...not if...when. 

Additional hard drives are great for a growing collection, but not for archives. 

Keep in mind that optical media is not infallible either and is subject to degradation.  The dyes used in burnable discs are inevitably degraded by UV light (sunlight) and will eventually lead to a disc that is not readable or has a large amount of corrupt data.  Commercially produced discs do not suffer the same problem because the pitted structure of the disc is physically pressed into the substrate.  The best bet here would be to go with hard drive(s) for the bulk and optical discs or flash media as a secondary backup, so you always have data redundacy .

 I had tried CDs and DVDs over the years, but there is no doubt that the best option are external HDs. They are getting cheaper by the day and I use mine to view with my laptop, as there are no porn files stored on my laptop. Don't forget that even an iPod can be used as an external HD, you will need iTunes installed to view the files.

 I don't know much about Blu-ray, but that could be an option for some. 

 Dont use online back ups. Get yourself an external HD. Picked up 500GB for £49 about a month ago from a large online retailer called ebuyer.

I bought a cheap arse dvd player that has a usb connection, as long as the video format is avi (mpg maybe too) I just pug my external HD in and watch them on the television, I only burn wmv's really

 I bought a 160 gig external HD for this very purpose...and it just stopped working after a year. Couldn't read it...and I had all my porn shit on there. Luckily I know a cyber geek who was able to retrieve the data for me. I do need to get another one though...maybe 2 just in case.

I have a NAS drive that hooks to my router that I store all of my big movies and stuff on, pictures are mainly on my laptop.  Everything gets backed up every couple of months to an external 500GB USB drive that I keep in the safe at my office.  The most I will ever lose is a couple months of porn.

 the SUREST solution is RAID HDs. Twice as expensive ... but they work by pair, in a redundant way, that is writing the data in double.

SO it is very unlikely that you will lose your data, even if ONE of the HDs crashes.

 Discs take too much time to burn. Are annoying to store and HIDE. And annoying to use. And hard to destroy in case of emergency.
