Direct links to pics offsite

This should be obvious to anyone who's surfed the net for more than a few years, but apparently it bears reminding. Most sites don't allow you to post a pic link from their site directly onto another site. So if you try to post something that ends in .JPG, it may not work, and we won't see it. Also, how long does it take to test your own post? Why not click the link you just posted, and see what it does? At least half the time, it will not be the image. That's why Peachy so generously lets us upload images here (within reason), see the Options Tab. It doesn't take long. Just save the pic and attach it here. But, the people who should read this probably won't. Welcome to the internet. Help!

I think the solution is obvious.  Don't allow Peachy members to post links until after they've posted half a dozen links.

You're obviously not getting the point seablonde made.

Often what throws people off is that when they test the link it works fine, because they have the proper cookies and the image cached from visiting the site before. When others try to use their link or look at the image they have posted directly on the board it doesn't work for anyone else (often being replaced with some anti-hotlinking message or image), but until someone points this out they are unaware.

It is also browser-related.  Some browsers show the pic, some browsers don't.

If a site does not allow hotlinking their pics, it doesn't matter which browser you're using.

That's why we allow users to upload their pics directly with us.

I was afraid my trying to make a joke wouldn't work.  I'm sorry.

I think everyone was assuming you had made a typo and was quietly metnally reinterpreting the sentence without saying anything about it was wrong, out of politeness.
