in the wake of the Aurora, Colorado theater shootings and the anniversary of the massacre on Utoya island, Norway there is a lot of talk about gun control here in the U.S.A . what are your thoughts. this seems like a good place to hear what folks around the world think.

i personally own a few rifles and a old timer double barrel breach loading shotgun. i love my guns, they are great tools. here in Montana, in the fall i spend a great amount of time hunting dear and elk. thats the only reason i own firearms. i dont think of my guns as protection. im not up here in the mountains of Montana stocking up on Beanie Weanies and AK-47's thinking that the government is coming to get me.  i dont understand why people need to own and use tactical, milatary style weapons. they are not for hunting, they are ment to kill people. thats it. i personally think they should be banned from public use and ownership. not one persons life being taken is worth the rights of the masses to own such weapons.

there's my two cents worth, hope everyone is well

It's a good thing there is a lot of talk. It would be even better if action was taken.

In most countries in Europe, with the exception of Switzerland, possession of firearms is VERY restricted. Permits and registration are required. There are no elk here to shoot and hunting deer is prohibited unless you are a game-keeper. That may just possibly explain, with a few exceptions, why there are so few fire-arm involved deaths over here.

I agree with lochsa9, having a gun for hunt or colection purpose is a normal and cultural thing. In Europe is very hard to get weapons, even for hunt, mike_op18 said that in Switzerland there no rules for guns, but even there rules are chaging and the people who have war guns have full police file. And the Confederal Swiss state buys those weapons for a fair price. In USA the problem is very complex, in Colorado if you have more than 21 and clean record, you can buy what you want. Like a rocket launcher or a army heavy sniper rifle, and those are not for regular hunting. Now follow this, imagine a regular US citizen (caucasian) with no money, but with a lot of bills to pay, family, a motherf***** accountant, and someone that he doesnt know purpose him a deal: "I give you a lot of money and you take a trip to Colorado or Arizona or Arkansas, get a residence certificate and then you buy me "some" weapons?" Imagine that guy accepts the deal. Its really scary, but very legal. I am not a US citizen but in my opinion law must change.

This is a discussion which goes on for decades.....

If you do not want tragedies like Aurora, Columbine etc etc etc etc anymore, then amend the US constitution.

Firearm restrictions like in Europe do not 100% safeguard you from tragedies or crimes to happen, but at least something has been done i.s.o.only discussing/arguing.

(Suppose next thing will be a Matt Romney election-spot him showing his guns.....  God forbid such a man enters the White House)

This is the EXACT question that the government wanted everyone asking. That's all I have to say.

Hi Hunter....yep same old advert, or should I say same old get-out ?. Control and education has to be the way. Only I wonder how the U.S would take lessons in common sense, basic morals, and anger control, to name a few. DrumCool. (no we aint perfect either).

In a perfect world perfect guns would be OK in perfect hands. Unfortunately, in the US there appear to be many people with difficulties of some sort or another. So, this is not a perfect world, and as such the perfect government should take perfect measures. But they do not and they never have done. Because there is never a perfect government. And so the road of killing goes on.

I'm in AZ. You can carry concealed here and you no longer need a permit. I'm for it although I never thought it would happen.

Recent homicide in the US was about 12000 using firearms with an additional 17000 used for suicide. Take away the guns and people will simply find other means. I wasn't saying that you can conceal a car, just making a point of fact statement, idiot. There were 33000 motor vehicle deaths in 2010. The fact is, People that want to kill will, with or without guns. It isn't as simple as taking away something that might be bad for public health. Accident, intentional, or otherwise.
