I was dumb, I need help - paysite

I signed up for a "trial" on a website that said it was 1.00 for 2 days.  If the account was not canceled before the 2 days expired the account would bill at 39.95 thereafter.  I signed up but after waiting for confirmation it gave me some sort of error message.  When I tried again I got the same message, then I just quit.  Not long after my e-mail had 4 different messages in it saying an account was activated.  The next day I could not use my bank card.  When I called the bank they said they froze the card because of some questionable transactions and wanted to speak with me about them.  There was a total of 4 transactions, one at 1.00, another at .01, one at 39.95, and another at 39.97.  The two 39.00 purchases had not gone through yet, they were just pending.  I was told by my bank that I needed to do a few things to get the money back, and that the two 39.00 purchases may or may not go through at that amount.  The bank guy told me to wait a few days and see.  Today I checked my account online and lo and behold a few days ago the two 39.xx purchases went though.  I canceled the account(s) approximately 24 hours after I opened them, well ahead of the 2 days they say you have before your account re-bills.  One of the transactions was through bestsupportnow.com and when I called them the bitch said they only had record of the 1.00 and a cancellation, no 39.xx purchas despite the fact that right in front of me on my online banking it says their name with the 39.95 purchase.  She gave me some excuse about how I have to contact the website, yeah, how, I searched hi and low and can't find out how.  I ended up just shouting "fuck you" into the phone and hanging up.  Anyway the 39.97 charge says it was from some "CRO Group" which I can't really find anything on.  I am pretty sure I can get my money back from my bank, but is there something I'm missing?  I'm pretty upset, this is shady.  Lesson learned, don't try to pay for something you can probably find for free.

Oh yeah, and I'm also getting an averageof 4-6 porn/spam e-mails from similar web addresses that I did NOT get beforehand.  Sheesh!

Thoughts?

Don't let it sour the whole experience. Tell your credit card company those are unauthorized charges. They'll reverse them without hassle. You will not be able to use that one particular bill processing company again, but then again you will never want to anyways.

It's just one of those things, stick to sites with trusted bill processing companies, like ccbill, epoch, vxsbill, paycom are the biggest and most trustworthy. Never join a site that uses any other bill processing company before checking out review sites, asking on forums.

Thanks hobo I appreciate your response.  I know they'll reimburse the charge.  I probably won't ever pay for anything else again.  I mean, what is the point really when you can get pretty much all of it after a little bit of effort?!

I've always been paranoid about porn sites and anything dealing with my personal info/bank info.

I was thinking about applying to a few erotic art websites (to complete my collections) but regardless of what they say in their privacy statement, I would try to get one of those prepaid credit cards (the ones purchased at the supermarket don't require identification or anything), and buy my porn subscriptions.

Despite having gone to college and being formally educated in computer networking, and security, I still freak out a little about stuff like clearing my cookies multiple times after viewing sites that have private info stored with them (ebay, amazon, newegg). Maybe it's OCD or maybe it's just me.

Well OP, I hope everything clears up. Good luck!

You want simple ? Open a checking account with a debit (check) card attached. My account has no minimum balance. That's it. Keep $2 to$5 in the account. So if I buy a $20 item, I put a $22 balance in checking from my savings account using on line banking. I don't have a credit card. Shop with cash. When the web company asks for my "credit card number" I give them the debit card no. No one's ever complained. This way you're in control--it's YOUR hand on the spigot handle. BTW I use BB&T Bank.

Well outside of Amazon or something like that I don't buy stuff anymore. I'm not going to pay to look at stuff, ot when I know I can look at it for free with a little more effort.

Yes, FiveNine. I do this for anything, including porn sites. Have subscribed to AllOver30 for the past year. No trouble. I just keep $35 in checking, & keep refilling as needed. And I use Amazon like this, no problem.
