MP4 Clip / Windows Media Player Problem

I purchased a clip the other day that was only available in the MP4 format. Once downloaded Windows Media Player said it couldn't play the file. I then downloaded Real Player and it brought my whole computer to a halt until I could remove it so that's not an option. The clip was available in no other format.

I use FireFox and can't figure out any other way to view my clip. Are those files that hard to view with something like Windows Media Player?

I'm not great at computer stuff but if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. I really want to view this clip.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Windows Media Player does not support playing the .mp4 file format without a few additional software programs installed.

Simplest way is to play the .mp4 file through Apple's Quicktime software.

Use the DivX codec, I think.

Maybe a bit late but if your using vista just google “vista codec pack”.

The package will allow you to play “ALL FORMATS” right through media player. Real, mp4, even flv.

DiVX codec should work, as should FdShow.

There is also a free program called Format Factory which is worth having. Not only does it convert any video to any format, but also does music files.
(ie iTunes Mp4a to whatever you want -which is supposed to be impossible.)
Best of all, it's a retard proof drag-and-drop program. Amazing. =)
