maybe a mod, could move this to the" computer assistance" thread as that is where it should have been in the first place

Just post a new message in that thread,

Also be sure to include your windows version and a better description of your problem (I'm not sure where you're talking about seeing it)

KS is right because merging this with my thread could possibly screw it up. I know a bit about this problem....if I remember right it has something to do with Norton's crap. I will look into it when I get a minute after I get home. By the way it is wNd, not wMd.

OK this problem is usually caused by a Symantec (Norton) product installed on your computer. If you have anything by this company, uninstall the piece of shit and chalk it up as a lesson learned. If not it is also sometimes caused by a trojan called TROJ_KILLAV.B. Run the Trend online scan (link at bottom) and delete whatever it finds. Also wouldn't hurt to go get a free program called CWShredder and run it. Find that one here: http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/online-tools/cwshredder.exe http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en/start_corp.asp Let us know how it goes

if you don't want to uninstall NAV the first thing you can try is to disable NortonCrashguardMonitor. you can do this by going Start>Run>Msconfig>click the Startup Tab> and unchecking NortonCrashguardMonitor.

let us know if it gets solved :)

if you need a good trojan scanner Ewido is good. for the first 14 days you get the full version - real time protection and automatic updates, they stop after 2 weeks and it turns into an on demand scanner. if during the first 14 days your PC is slow, right-click the orange E in the System Tray and disable real-time protection.
