problems with ccbill page 1

A couple of years ao I bought membership to a site through ccbill. The site turned out to be nothing more than a front page - with the 'members' section inactive. I made the mistake of asking ccbill for a refund.

I got the refund, but ever since then ccbill have refused to process my credit cards - I am "declined at pre-authorisation"

I've rung ccbill's support line and been told that I have to they won't "un-block" me and that I have to use an alternative payment method.

Of course, most sites only use ccbill and there is no alternative. So I've saved loads of money but I often cannot get a membership to a site. Imagine the frustration.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

CCBill is matching up your new transactions with the old one somehow. The data collected is ip address, email address, physical address, name, and credit card number.

I cannot imagine they match anything by ip address because they know nearly everyone is on a dynamic ip address. You can bet they are matching up credit card number & email address - try a different card and a create a new email address at yahoo, gmail, etc. You can also change the card's billing address, run the transaction, then reset the billing address.

At this point, the only info that remains the same between the bad transaction and the new attempt, is your name, and we all know there are a lot of people in the world with identical names, CCBill shouldn't be keying on that alone.

 You're right, i know it's data matching -

I've moved house, and even moved country, since it happened, and I've used a different credit card too - so the only thing constant is my name, which is pretty unusual so maybe it's setting something off with them

anyway thanks for the tips, i'll be persistent

That's harsh. They must be keeping records of each attempt or something. With the economy the way it is and website revenues down this year, I'm surprised they're not relaxing on the issue. I'm curious though for my own knowledge, is it just CCBill that is blocking you, or are you also blocked from joining a site that uses a different processing company, like Paycom, Epoch, etc.?

Here's the other end of the line...

Our site uses ccBll as billing company. It's not free, but cuts out a lot of work....

We have had charge-backs before. Members who sign-up and visit our site until the last day, then cancel and demand a refund. I fully understand that IF ccBill grant a refund, then they are hesitant to take a membership from the same person twice (credit card, name. address, emal, IP). It costs them money just as it costs the sites money.

There are other billing companies, but each site is free to choose what they go by. We accept cash in a registered letter, Paypal, IMO, Western Union. As far as I know, there is no 'blacklist' between billing companies.

I would suggest writing to the webmaster or site-administrator, briefly explaining the problem, and asking for alternative means of payment. Chances are you'll get a reply.

Sure, I know some customers are a pain. When I've called CCbill i explain that the site I joined was dead (it was just an index page, members only front page with thumbnails of galleries and clips which had no content behind them) but they don't want to know - I guess a chargeback is a chargeback.

I have contacted webmasters before, sometimes it works, sometimes I guess they sense trouble and don't reply. I've used paypal and other payment processors are fine (that makes me a fan of onlytease)

BTW I just re-joined crushphoto for the first ti me in 4 years using ccbill so somehow it's loosened up .. maybe the passage of time?

I know it sucks to do, but you could get a pre-paid credit card and use that. They are likely macthing your address & name so short of changing that you will likely be out of luck.
