Hello: I cleared up a very bad google spinoff problem with hijack this. I still have the sycle from hell redirects when trying to browse on many sites. I use Firefox, and have the 'remove redirects' extension as well as the same bookmarklet from Pornzilla. They don't work....any suggestions??

Thanks!

Few weeks ago this problem was heavily discussed and doctored around in the "Being spun to a google page" with quite some examples, tips and hints there:

http://peachyforum.com/forums/thread/186016.aspx

May-be you can try out the several suggestions there and if it does not work post again there...

Hello, Lou: Been there did that, thanks. Solved the problem of the Google Spinoffs, but not the problem of  the redirects. For example, I even get redirects on Xpirin now where I had none before. The system is clean. Ran ewido in safe mode and it came out clean. Ran Spysweeper, clean. Ad-Aware, clean. I think it may just be the general redirects on the address that are causing this, but how to get around them.

You might read my post at the top of the General Discussion forum rearding this. Hope you might be able to help.

Thanks! Lotus

Yeah, those redirects are not normal at xpirin - just checked with Mozilla suite and no problems for me.

I thought especially the last hint in that 'being spun'-forum was concerned with redirects:

ByMyself001:
Hi there,

Had the same problems, and found out this solution:

Check start-> control panel -> network collections:
LocalAreaConnection -> properties:
There you find "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" -> properties.

Your value in Prefered DNS-Server has been changed by "them" ,
replace it with the values you got from your Service Provider.
Thats it.

It seemed pretty sucessful with some guys. Other than that I can only think of getting a linux-CD with a virus-scanner, but I am not so sure that this is right on target for your problem...Confused [:-s]

Hey, Lou: Yes, that last hint Was good for a lot of guys, but I don't have any change in my DNS server.

Curiously, I have 5 lines in my HijackThis scan that neither HijackThis nor a MANUAL removal attempt will remove from the registry and I suspect they may have something to do with the problem as I believe they are trojans:

4 lines of R1:     HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Main, Search Bar: http://mynetzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch

1 line of R0:      HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Search, SearchAssistant=http://mynetzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch

I had uninstalled Netzero, but these remained. When I try to manually modify/delete in the Registry, a warning pops up that "Not Allowed to Modify!"  thus they remain......

what do you think?

thanks, lotus

I don't think that is the problem.

If you look at the last print-out of hijack-this in this tech-support thread here, they say it is clear and user agrees that all is working fine for him although mynetzero line is still in there:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/hijackthis-log-help/58584-hijackthis-log.html

Netzero is an ISP which you may have used in former months or so and it is assigned to Network Solutions, a renowned company. My guess is that you are using a different provider now, as you deleted their software and can still go online - but please reassure yourself about this!!!

Here is a page which shows part of the service they offer, to help you decide:
http://www.netzero.net/about/?cf=wwwb1

Also I am not really familiar with hijack this - going to pm some expert.
(Probably you will also have to post the whole list...)

Hey, Lou: BELIEVE IT OR NOT, after repeated re-starts, and cleanings, the problem seems to have resolved itself (knock on wood). The web addresses and web sites are now highlighted by 'redirect remover' and I have had about a 98% reduction in redirects, so that's probably as good as it gets.

Thanks for your time, and I am going on Hijack-This web support to learn more on this thing, as I do want to remove the NetZero lines. Yes, NetZero is a reputable company and I was with them for about 5 years on dialup, but am now on wireless; I though it may have been a Search Bar hijack by other cheap shits that put in the lines.

Really appreciate your time,
Have a good day,
