Guys,

I've a decent amount of video content downloaded from the web onto my PC. I now want to put it onto dvds, so I dont have to be sat by the PC to watch them.

However, I have absolutely zero technical knowledge and dont know what to do! I know for a fact that my PC does not have a dvd drive, only a cd drive.

Can I still make dvds using my PC? if so would a kind person please take me through what I need to get/do step-by-step please?

Many thanks guys

Well first of all you are going to need a DVD-R burner. They are pretty cheap nowadays (around 40 bucks), I would recommend Samsung and Lite-On. Or if money is no object, Plextor makes the best CD/DVD drives by far, but at a price.
Then, you will need a converter to convert your files (WMA, Avi/DivX, mpeg, etc.) like DVD Lab Pro or Clone DVD. Keep in mind that this process converts the video frame by frame, so it takes a long ass time depending on various factors. If you happen to have/find videos that are already in DVD format, which is very rare, you are golden.
When you get what you need and are ready to go....shoot me a PM and I will walk you through the process.

I would add that you should read the reviews for the Plextors. Some models are only ok, while others are terrific. Some have features you may not need and could save money by not having.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ...

You say you have a cd drive ... may we suppose that your device can also burn cd's (normal cd's, music cd's)?

If the answer is YES, please do the following test: burn into a 'normal' CD any piece of video from your hard disk that have the extension *.mpg or *.mpeg ...

Then put that burned CD into your home DVD reader ... if you are able to see the film at the TV screen ... bingo! you can go ahead and transfer all of your MPEG-2 stuff into VCD directly, without any converter (the converter should only be needed for wmv & avi -> into mpg).

Er well, if he just wants video on discs then VCDs will suffice too. Or a mini-dvd, which is dvd video burned to a cd.
