It seems veoh has cut off third world countries, and iceland. I wonder what the real reason behind it is.

Suppose as usual it comes down to money....   Distribution rights etc.  There's a persistant rumour most EU countries will be blocked very soon as well.  Spain, Greece, Czech Rep. and Hungary are blocked already.

It's happening with almost all the streaming sites.
Definetly a distribution rights thing, here's the reason given by another site like Veoh.com

Hulu.com

Sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed from within the United States

Hulu is committed to making its content available worldwide. To do so, we must work through a number of legal and business issues, including obtaining international streaming rights. Know that we are working to make this happen and will continue to do so. Given the international background of the Hulu team, we have both a professional and personal interest in bringing Hulu to a global audience.

If you'd like, please leave us your email address and the region in which you live, and we will email you when our videos are available in your area.

I call bullshit on them, it's simply a matter of monetization. They clearly can't make money with these countries, and therefore are cutting their losses. The price of bandwidth is a LOT less than it used to be (hence all the crazy video sites now) but still companies are faced with how much they want to lose to keep their business afloat every month, as most of these sites operate at a loss.

Sometimes getting huge isn't as easy as it sounds, especially if your business runs on a very tight margin.
