Voting - how'd it go?

I just got back from voting.  Just wondering how it went for everyone.

I got to my precinct area at 10am, and waited for an hour (it went pretty fast as everyone in line was friendly).  There were maybe 80 people in line.  No major problem with the touch screen computers that I know of.  We had four of them at our location.  At the local elections in May I walked right in and voted without waiting.  As this is my first time voting at this location, I asked around and others in line said that in 2000 they only waited 10 minutes to vote in the Presidential Election.

How'd it go for everyone else?

I went at 8am CST in Minnesota but was not allowed to vote.  I looked at the Minnesota Election Law and legally they can't deny me, but some how they are.  God I hate this country.

That sucks,

Don't give up.  By US law they must allow you to fill out a provisional ballot.  The states then have two weeks to verify that you're registered.  In Minnesota you can even register to vote today and still be counted.
here's some more info:
http://www.vote-smart.org/voter_registration_resources.php?state_name=Minnesota&state_code=MN&go.x=3&go.y=6

My suggestion, call whatever party you plan on voting for in your state.  I'm sure they'll be able to sort everything out for you.

Well I had someone to vouchethat I lived here, but they said that they will not accept that in this situation because he is a new registrant, even though the law is that they only have  to live here and be registered.  I am trying to see if I can find someone who can vouche for my residence.

That sucks, and kind weird that you need someone to vouch for you.

Her in Indiana, I didn't even have to show my ID.  There was a table with three people.  One had a list from A-M, anther had a list from N-Z of registered voters.  Then all the third person did was check signitures.  One person behind me had to give them his last four digits of his SSN (perhaps because he was a new voter, or they didn't have his signiture on file).

I suppose your not required to have a photo ID in the US, but who doesn't have one?  It just seems like we're asking for problems.

Wow, touch screen voting!  High-tech Shit!  I had to "fill in the oval" old school style.  This was my first time voting, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.  I educated myself on the proposals but I had no idea there would be so many other things to vote on.  I don’t recall an exact number, but I’d say there were at least 25-30 different local/state/federal things to vote on.  Exactly how am I qualified to pass judgment and vote on the board of trustees for a University 200 miles south of the one I actually attend?

Was fairly fast and easy. I went at noon (EST), so most people were at lunch. The Voting Officials said this has been the busiest Election they had ever worked.  There were 4 lines to vote. Luckily, mine was the shortest. So, I was out in about 40 minutes. Our voting system comprised a large board, with all of the candidates and issues on it. You then press next to your vote, and it lights up. When all done, you hit a large green button, that records your vote. I live in Ohio, and the nation is really watching our state. We are also voting on whom you are legally allowed to marry, and smoking in bars. So, I'm betting that our turnout will be HUGE. 3 heated issues at stake. I only hope they all agree with me.Smile

Just got back from voting. No wait for me, but when I was done, there was about 15 people in line. Only ID asked for was my Voter Registration Card. Here in Maryland it is the first time with touch screen voting and that has been a big enough debate in itself. When you sign in they give you a plastic card (like a credit card) in which your voter information is entered. You then go to the voting machine, insert your plastic card, (like an ATM) the machine reads it and then you can vote. I had no problems, but 2 of the 4 people who came to vote on machines next to mine had their plastic cards spit back out by the machine and not allowed to vote. They had to then get generic plastic cards so they could vote. So in essence, theoritically, my vote could be tracked, but the 2 people whose cards got rejected could not. I hope I'm wrong but I think this election won't end until Thanksgiving.[li]

Can't understand, only 50% of people in US vote... we have that over 70%

I had no problem voting.  But, I only got a sticker, I didn't get a cookie.  Cookies rule.  So does George W. Bush.  I'm glad to  be an American today.

the secret to bring down the US is to give us something sweet to eat and we're defenceless. just make sure you feed us it in excess, we like to over do it :-)

Congratulations!  You win the award for the first person to ruin this thread by actually saying who you voted for!  Yes

no exactly true.  I wrote that because I saw in the news section that it said "gooo kerry"...and that I thought...bringing politics into a site like this...kinda ruined everything.  But, thanks for caring Wink

Actually, I didn't tell who I voted for... cause I can't. And another thing... and the election actually does concern our forum.

When I wrote 'Goo Kerry' it's just an opinion of a porn webmaster, nothing more... the income of porn webmasters (like me) has dropped 75% since Clinton. Meaning, more advertising and less free stuff. If things get worse, I won't have $ for the servers and I'll quit as well.

Another thing about Bush is that laws about porn have gotten tighter... soon there will be no 'free porn' if the new ones go though. Requiring we to keep track on licenses on galleries that we're linking to would kill the idea of PeachyBBS.

But when you vote as an American you must thing also other things (taxes & security), so there is no need to start arguing.

This thread is now closed and re-opened after 4 years. Yes
