It used paypal for payment for porn which is illegal. I was a top 15 member to, out of over 30,000. It was an awesome forum with good spirit, and hopfully peachy can match it :)

PayPal wasn't the problem.

Solosis encountered serious legal problems b.o. copyright infringements. And I mean real serious ones.

The problem (copyright issue) Peachy is presently experiencing is child's play compared with what he is in at this moment.

So he has put things 'on hold' for time being.

Ya, they had some huge threads chock full of RS'd vid's (big name company stuff/DVD rips, not just internet-model stuff like here). Whatever, the forums where full of elitish "OMG noobs STFU noobs noobs noobs" posters who equated penis size with post-count. No loss here.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here...  If a person has a video (whatever video that may be) downloaded on their computer and then decides to upload this vid to a free file sharing program, then where is the foul?  There was no money involved and solosis wasn't directly hosting the material.  So, these videos can be bought but a person who may very well have purchased the material in the first place can't give it away??!!  I have to be missing something here.  If so, someone, please explain.

Along with the thread Funky posted, let me add....It's a fine line nowadays what you "own" and what you have "rights to". For instance, just because you bought a CD or video, whether it be online or in a store, you don't really "own" anything....other than the right (with stipulations) to watch and/or listen to it for yourself, and an unspecified number of friends....and the actual plastic and metal of the disc and case itself (if any). There are rules and laws in the US that prohibit the public viewing of any copyrighted material, such as setting up a makeshift drive-in theater in some parking lot and using a projector so that many people can watch it at once. This, while pretty laughable regarding enforcement, is technically illegal, and can in some cases land you in jail and with a fine of whatever they decide you cost them. Same with uploading a video, song, or picset that you think that you "own"....online. What you purchased was a limited license agreement to personally enjoy whatever it is that you bought....and pretty much nothing else.
When I was a kid and there were only vinyl LP's....the standard procedure was to have each one of us buy certain albums and then everyone else would make cassette copies, so we all would have every one but only had to actually buy 3-4. To my knowledge, nobody was ever arrested for such things back then, except for the cockjockeys that made 1000 copies and tried to sell them on the street lol.
Hope this cleared a few things up, it is kind of tricky to explain but I did my best.

Excellent summation F~. Its definately the issue of owning for personal enjoyment vs. uploading and distributing said product. In any event, the internet offers a few more people then just a small circle of friends...

Now, do I already have my copy of War of the Worlds shot in beautiful nearby Newark "Bricktown", NJ. You bet, paid 3 bucks and after watching it that's way too much. Either way is that I won't be posting it on mega and placing the link in various places for all to grab.
