Hi !

I have a question about adware/spyware, more in particular about DSOExploit and CoolWWWSearch.leftovers.

I scan my system 3x per week with latest versions of Adaware and Spybot S+D incl. most recent updates.

About DSOExploit I read some details further up in this thread from somebody with same problems. I understand that DSOExploit can be ignored and that it is probabely a bug in Spybot S+D. Correct?

Recently Spybot S+D is also detecting CoolWWWSearch.leftovers (Adaware is not detecting these 2 items)

It remains being detected all the time, even after an immediate 2nd scan and after having 'deleted' it after the 1st scan and without again being connected to internet.

On recommendation of somebody else I have downloaded a small 700kB utility tool CWShredder, specially designed for getting rid of CoolWebSearch rubbish. CWShredder is not detecting anything which Spybot S+B did.

I have feeling now that this is also a new bug in Spybot, but I am seeking confirmation for that, because I heard that CoolWebSearch adware/spyware can be very nasty.

Who can help/advise me ?  Thank you very much.

The coolwwwsearch.leftovers is just a false positive by SpyBot . All of the coolwebsearch plugins are just browser hijackers , meaning that they tell your system to go to their page when you open Internet Exploder™ . Nothing to worry about....I don't know where you read they are "very nasty" but that is not true , they are merely an annoyance , although they do root themselves in your registry and try to broadcast back to themselves all of your web activities . But as far as ruining your computer or even messing things up , they simply aren't that kind of pests .

If you are on XP always disable your system restore and THEN scan because alot of these pests root themselves in the restore folder and will come back immediately even after being "removed" by Ad Aware etc. Then turn System Restore back on and the pests will be completely gone . Also make sure you clean out your temp files , especially the system restore temp files , before and after a scan .

Do yourself a favor and end the constant cycle of ad and spyware and go get Opera (my choice) or Mozilla's Firefox . Using IE these days is an un-needed liability , and it is simply unsafe .

Dale ,

Glad to hear that you removed the trojans , did you mean to say anything in that last post (blank) or was it an accidental double post?

I know it's against my better judgement still to use IE6, but most of the time I work with a notebook and both Opera and Firefox just take too much capacity from my HD.

hey F*

i wanted to say that the new version of ad aware together with the settings you gave me caught some extra crab on my computer. coolwebsearch stuff.
and i got winpatrol. nice little program....just to let you know your advices are followed and not blown in the wind :)

my problem with posting here is that the "reply" button disappears on mouse over. i have to click very quickly. sometimes it goes wrong. hey , maybe you got an answer for that too. i use mozilla firefox. is it something in my settings, or a bug in the bbs? i got this problem since the new bbs. reported it allready, but nothing seems to improve...

thanx!

Dale ,

You're welcome and thanks for the comments . As for your question , this one I can't answer because I haven't used Firefox since the latest Opera came out a few months ago (pre-new software) . There are alot of people here that use Firefox but the problem is I am afraid nobody will see your question here , at least not for a few days , so your best bet is to post the same question in *BBS Related* . Good luck .

hello all, i have a problem viewing vids from this link; http://81.137.138.17/x-files/eurovirgins/marie/index.html

i can download the vids, but they won't open in windows media player, which is what i usually use, i tried quicktime but nothing. when media player tries to open them, it says it can't find the decompressor. is there another player i could download that will play these for me? i'm on a resonably slow computer and have os 98. i have watched clips before......

thanks in advance,

Repost from another thread:

Or better yet go get Jet Audio which will play nearly any video file (it's free) . Get it here:

http://www.download.com/3001-2167_4-10312964.html

And for pesky Divx and Avi vids with tricky codecs that won't play on anything else get Divx Player (also free) here:

http://www.download.com/3001-2139_4-10316156.html

Then get the all in one codec pack and install:

http://www.free-codecs.com/Codec_Pack_All_in_1_download.htm

Zoom Player Free will also play most vids and it is a nice program:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=413&file=11&evp=a277310158b6896780b426c6f16284db

For the life of me I don't know why anyone would ever , under any circumstances , use Winblows™ pathetic Media Player when there are so many other much better options . The above three programs will play every video known to man (and woman) and do it with style and precision . And most importantly , they are not made by Microshaft™ . Happy Viewing Yes

Alright Brad Time To Pick Your Brain Big Smile

My Brother is trying to get on MSN and it keeps saying something about certificates and not finding them.

My Question is: how do I fix this problem?

In which country are you ?

If you are not In PRChina, Islamic countries or Belorus I might be able to help you.

(btw this site Peachy18 is a lot "tougher" than eg. angelweb.net)

Does your brother log in with a .NET-passport?

Then he should remove all MSN cookies and try again through a "sidedoor" by logging-in his Hotmail account (using Hotmail page, NOT MSN page), logging-out again; after logging-out he should end-up in his local MSN mainpage and try again.

It did the trick with me.

Lot of "bugs" in MSN eg. Groups&Communities etc.

I am in Pakistan. I have tried using web to email services like PageGetter.com but that thing is too slow and for their free package only 15 hits are allowed in a month.
