Anathema have got their new song Everything to download for free here...

http://www.anathema.ws/music/everything.mp3

They don't have a record deal at the moment if you're wondering why it's free.

From their website http://www.anathema.ws/
Greetings to all...

Here we present a brand new anathema song called 'everything'.

It has been recorded and mixed by the band, independent of any record company.

We decided to give this song directly to the public as soon as it was finished, as a thank you to all those people who have kept faith with anathema and what we are doing.

Anathema presently has no record deal.

For this reason we have included a DONATE OPTION, where you can help the band by donating a small amount to the process of recording this new record.

In return, we will present more songs for you to download over the coming weeks and months. These versions will be exclusive and not available anywhere else.

Here is an opportunity for people to support a band directly, instead of filling the pockets of anonymous businessmen.

The sentiment of this song is one of hope. Of truth. We are very proud of it. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

with respect from ANATHEMA

...to be continued...

EVERYTHING

Needed time to clear my mind
breathe the free air find some peace there
I used to keep my heart in jail
but the choice was love or fear of pain and
I...
chose...
love...

cos everything is energy and energy is you and me...

Light shines in through an open window
shines inside your heart and soul and
light will guide your way through time
and love will help you heal your mind and
life...
will...
be..

cos everything is energy and energy is you and me...
There's also the "make a donation" link they speak of at the website (couldn't copy that bit).

Here's some Anathema videos Thumbs up! [Y]
I posted a video link earlier to a live version of "One Last Goodbye" (from Judgement 1999).

The Silent Enigma (from The Silent Enigma 1995) - one of my favourites
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSK8PMC8MnA

Mine Is Yours To Drown Own (from Pentecost III 1995)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G91-OxvKFgI

Hope (from Eternity 1996) - a cover of Roy Harper/Dave Gilmour
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezVM6CsxtyQ

Sleepless - LIVE (original from Serenades 1993) - their classic song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4QJ_YWPAUo

If anyone's not heard it, try to find the Cradle Of Filth cover of Sleepless too - one of CoF's best songs IMO.

Read recently that Lee Douglas (sister of drummer John) is now officially a band member too.

'Metal gods' smiling on man hit by train

Tue, April 18, 2006

By CP

RED DEER -- The metal gods were smiling on Jesse Maggrah.

The 20-year-old man was walking beside railway tracks on Sunday, the Norwegian heavy metal band Gorgoroth cranked on his portable CD player, when he was hit by a freight train.

Maggrah said he did hear the blast of the train horn just before he was hit.

"I tried to jump out of the way, but I guess not in time," he said yesterday from his bed at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

"It was just instant. I was just walking and then I was on the ground. I wasn't sure what happened. Then I saw the train stopping up ahead. I thought, 'Holy crap dude, you just got hit by a train.' "

Police say the engineer and conductor on the northbound Canadian Pacific Railway train saw the man on the tracks several kilometres south of Red Deer.

The crew blew the whistle and attempted to stop, but they were only able to slow the train to about 50 km\ h before hitting him.

Maggrah was thrown four to five metres from the tracks. Stunned, he moved his arms and legs to check for damage.

"I knew I was alive, so that was good."

He has several broken ribs, one which is poking into a lung, his doctors have told him.

Maggrah is also very sore and stiff, and is having trouble walking.

Maggrah said he remembers the train engineer checking him to see if he was OK.

"He seemed kind of scared. He didn't know if I was dead or not."

Maggrah was walking into Red Deer to watch a band jam night at a local club.

He said he didn't hear the train over his music and he didn't feel anything through the ground.

"Maybe the metal gods above were smiling on me and they didn't want one of their true warriors to die on them. Otherwise, I'd be up there in the kingdom of steel."

Police say no charges are pending..

Knowing how a lot of people feel about the supposed evil influence that some metal bands have on people, I'm surprised that more wasn't made of who he was listening to. A bands obscurity can be an advantage sometimes because some of the moral guardians would've liked for the train driver to have made a better job of it. Gorgoroth have an interesting past. This from Wikipedia:

Poland Incident

On February 1st, 2004, during a live broadcast concert in, Krakow, Poland the band displayed sheep heads on stakes, a bloodbath of 80 liters of sheep's blood, satanic symbols, and four naked crucified models on stage. One of the two female models fainted. A police investigation took place with allegations of religious offense and cruelty to animals. Though these charges were considered, the band was not charged. The whole controversy lead to the band being dropped from the roster of the Nuclear Blast Tour and the footage of the concert being confiscated by the police.

Shortly after the Poland Incident, singer Gaahl was sentenced to 18 months incarceration for the beating of a 41-year old man and threatening to drink his blood in Norway in 2002.. He appealed the case, and in spring 2005, he was sentenced to 14 months in jail as well as paying the victim 180 000 NOK. He has yet to serve the sentence because of the structure of Norway's legal system.

In February 2005, Infernus was accused and convicted of raping a young woman at an after-party. She claimed she was kept hostage and abused for more than an hour before she managed to flee in just a towel. Infernus was found not guilty of the actual rape, but was still charged with his indifferent attitude as the rape was committed by a friend of his and he did nothing to stop it. He is looking at a year in Norwegian prison.

Here's one of the most influential bands; Morbid Angel from the early - mid 90's. >sigh< those were the days..... The next album will begin with I of course.

Wow, that's pretty f**ked up with Gorgoroth. I'd never heard of them before. Yeah after reading that, I'm surprised more wasn't made of it myself. I agree with you with what you say about the "supposed evil influence" I remember in my younger days, when wearing metal t-shirts, just walking down the street, I'd notice people go out of there way to avoid me - and that's just wearing Megadeth, or Bathory t-shirts or whatever. But then on the other hand, when you know other metal fans, or meet new people at gigs or whatever, they're some of the nicest people you could meet. It's weird the perception some ignorant people have towards metal and/or their fans.
I checked out some Gorgoroth, and gotta say they don't do much for me. I wonder sometimes if the satanic thing some bands do if just for theatrics. I see it as pretty over the top and not much different to Manowar or Gwar in that it's arguably all just for show - definitely in the case of Gwar. Don't mean any offense to anyone out there - I love Manowar's music myself. Glenn Benton was somewhat the same, but that guy was also a tool. Did he end up killing himself at aged 33 (or 34)?? I remember him saying he was going to do that (to act tough/evil??) ROFL! [ROFL]

Hey I found a pic of the Gorogoth sheep heads...

and TV News footage about them. Unfortunately, not in English, so have no idea what it's about really, but seems to have a fair bit about the sheep head gig. Apparently they're putting out a dvd sometime with that footage too.

Nice one with God of Emptiness. Good Job! [GJ]
That is by far my favourite Morbid Angel song, but other than the album that was off (which I don't even remember the name - it's been a while), I haven't heard much else by them other than random song here and there over the years. Did they ever do any other songs like God of Emptiness where it's more melodic/doomy? Would love to here more if they did.

Speaking of Morbid Angel, saw this a little while back, Phil Anselmo singing with them live...

Great posts guys!! Thanks alot for keeping this thing rolling. Yeah Gorgoroth are some sick fucks but I always thought they needed to be heavier and have more complicated and menacing riffs to match how tough and evil they like to be thought of....Twilight Of the Idols was pretty good (I really like the blood-curdling screams) but it had that noisy production again which just bothers me. Sometimes it sounds like a microphone outside in a really strong wind. I am not sure of they want to be a black metal band or a pseudo-death grind metal band anymore. They kind of fail at both and then to see this crap they pull onstage. I say they are a bunch of douches. Seeing Phil's name mentioned here made me cringe, the dude is a piece of shit and doesn't even deserve to be mentioned anywhere at all. And about Benton lol, I was just reading all the hate pages about him the other night. One guy says he walked up to the bus window and Glen stared out at him with this pissed-off look and then later he came out and started singing "Loser" by beck with his fat gut hanging out. LOL the guy says it ruined his whole lifelong image of Benton. Some of the posts are hilarious. I never really had a problem with him, probably because I never took the time to read up about him, but I have to say that the two times I met him at shows he was an angry prick just like everyone always says. One time he just grunted something at me. I have no idea what he said. And another time on the Morbid Angel tour I saw him standing out front so I went up and said whats up and asked him if it's hard on his voice to "sing" like he does every night.....he just said "No" really cockily and that was that. Read this forum, it's pretty funny stuff.

hehehe, sorry F. Yeah I don't like him much myself. Hadn't kept up with Pantera, and the bands afterwards since around when Great Sounthern Trendkill came out, but reading stuff about Phil when Dimebag was murdered, definitely changed what I thought of him (not that I'd thought a real lot of him beforehand going by their videos). So I have agree with you there. I wont mention him again Thumbs up! [Y] Big Smile [:D]

I only saw Deicide once, quite a while ago, and I can't remember what was about, but he was going off at some guy in the crowd inbetween songs, which I didn't agree with, he went way too far - whether it was an act on Benton's behalf (certainly was not the an act by the other guy) or whether he was serious I don't know for sure, but it seemed serious. It wasn't too bad I guess, but just showed that he is a tool, and showed what type of person he was. That probably influenced a fair bit of what I think of him. Hehehe, reading your experiences, and that forum, it does not surprise me at all with his aggressive side. I gather he is still alive. I just remember an article/interview in an Aussie metal magazine (Hot Metal), which he was going on about how he was gonna kill himself at age 33 - something to do with Satan, or some crap like that IIRC - it wasn't like a depression suicide thing, it was for some significant reason to him that the age 33 (or 34 whatever it was) had some meaning IIRC.

That was taken from Covenant, which also contains my favourite Morbid Angel song World of Shit, I like it purely because it has one of the most ominous riffs I've heard.

I noticed on the Death in the Forest ad that AxCx are 'playing'. I heard they had a song called 'Anyone who likes Dillinger Escape Plan is a Faggot', I would like to point out that a faggot over here means a meatball, usually pork but can be made of other meat products. Just thought I'd clear that up.

02. Materia
03. Nostalgiaplatz (Acoustic)
04. Flower (Acoutic)

It's £1.99 at Peaceville.com
(who now have their new website up by the way)

The first two tracks are off the new album Materia, while the other songs are acoustic versions of older songs (these acoustic versions have not been released before). The original of Nostalgiaplatz can be heard at their myspace site

Cheers h8sh8.

The demise of the following band is a sad tale.....

Nasum were and I think will always be my #1 grindcore band. They lost their vocalist/guitarist Mieszko Talarczyk to the boxing day Asian Tsunami. In some forms of metal it's hard to stay fresh sounding as it can become formulaic and generic but somehow Nasum managed to still be important after 4 albums worth of shredding grindcore, new members had been drafted in which created a new dynamic and the future looked good but then nature dealt a blow.

They've recently released their swansong compilation containing just about every song that wasn't on a studio album - 152 songs on 2 CDs! It's called 'Grind Finale'. Here's a track from Shift (2004):

BTW h8sh8 you better get off that post count of 666 pretty quick, don't let the Devil in!

Also I noticed your avatar had to be by Dave Patchett but it was well hidden away on the bottom right hand corner of the Carnival Bizarre booklet. I think that the woman in that painting is meant to be Diana Ross. I remember reading an interview with Patchett where he mentioned her but can't recall exactly which cover he  put her on.

#667 now Devil [>:->]
cheers - hadn't noticed that Thumbs up! [Y]
what scares me more, is that I've actually posted 666 times at a porno website Stick out tongue [:P] Big Smile [:D]

hehe, hadn't heard that about Diana Ross before, it does look like her. Do you know if there's any others to look for?? I always assumed it was Dave himself in the bottom left (the old guy) just by the way it's placed there - but have no idea what he looks like.

Well spotted by the way quantiq Good Job! [GJ]. Tried to use a bigger section of the cover, but it ended up too small. The Carnival Bizarre has got to be my favourite album cover I think (from the artwork p.o.v. - there's others I prefer for the Graphic Design side of it).

I found a version at Dave Pratchett's website without the band logo and fold lines, though not cd book sized unfortunately...

Reminds me a lot of Hieronymous Bosch paintings - I especially like this one by Bosch...

The Garden of Earthly Delights (3 panels)

(for anyone who doesn't know Bosch, this was made in 1504 !!)

I noticed with this painting, the top right is a Celtic Frost cover, and middle right is a Deep Purple cover (there's two more album covers I've seen by non-metal bands in there too - bottom-right & top-centre).

Where's your avatar from Quantiq? Is that also a cover or painting?

I used this one (also from an album cover) for a day, but it's just a bit too weird...

If anyone can tell me what it means, that'd be great, cos I don't have a clue what it's meant to represent Confused [:-s]

Awesome job guys -- Shit, I don't even know where to begin when I think of trying to match h8sh8's posts. I guess I am more of a reactionary poster. The guys posts are like works of art, and I have had a few too many tonight and I can't even begin to try. But now that I catch the drift I will see what I can do.
By the way on the 666 thing, Slayer/Lamb Of God start their Unholy Alliance Tour in where else....San DifuckinEgo....and on what date? 6/6/06.

Thanks guys. And by the way....Angela Gossow is (a) God.

Nah man, from my point of view, I wish I could be a more reactionary poster, and also wish I could match other posters here myself. So it goes both ways. My posts are mainly just news, or stupid trivia crap, not very much discussion (or continuing of discussions) or substance to them. Wink [;)] On top of that, I'm probably just saying stuff most people already know anyway Embarrassed [:$] Big Smile [:D] I also don't know when to stop - I just keep blabbering on and on and on. I start off with good intentions ("just a small post" I think to myself), but it just gets outta hand, as this post surely will...

There's no drift anyone needs to be catching, or matching to be done - no ones posts are better or worse imo. Just as long as there are posts - it's all good I reckon Good Job! [GJ]

6/6/06 ROFL! [ROFL] - well done Slayer Good Job! [GJ].
Wonder if that's the day Glenn Benton will finally kill himself Wink [;)]

Hey anyone seen these documentaries before? (it's sort of metal/satan related)
I finally found the dvd to buy today Thumbs up! [Y] (been looking for a while)

Paradise Lost: The Child Murders and Robin Hood Hills (IMDB)
and
Revelations: Paradise Lost 2 (IMDB)

Excellent documentaries. I highly recommend them, especially to metal fans and to those interested in true crime/serial killer type documentaries. Pretty disturbing/scary stuff though Horrified [=8-@] - in the "that's fucked up" kinda way (on two levels - obviously the murders, but also the trial)

Anyone got the new Tool yet? I also tried to buy that today (came out on the 29th here in Oz - I think that's what said on the ads), but the damn thing was sold out! Tried 3 different record shops, but all sold out and not getting more til sometime next week dammit. Crying [:'(] I'd already downloaded it so can still listen to it at least. What do you guys think of it?? I reckon it's pretty good myself - no Aenima, but still some great tracks on there - Right in Two, and Vicarious are both awesome I think. Coincidently, both have the best lyrics on the album too I reckon.

I tried to buy the new Novembre too, but the store had no listing of it. They only had one album (Classica) on their computers - they said to try again in a couple of months - fuckers! Looks like I'll have import that one.

(Sorry, I think I used my weekly quota of smileys in one post there Help! [:O])

I know what fucktard means, I'm used to posting on those other threads where I lay down a link and get the hell out, should make more of an effort on this one though.Big Smile [:D]

Now as to my avatar I've taken it from this:

I'm not going to say too much about that band because they've always been a bit special to me and I end up sounding like a FanBoy when I talk about them.

I've always liked Bosch and particularly that painting. Another in a similiar vein, (kind of), is 'The Triumph of Death' by Pieter Bruegel

Info here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Triumph_of_Death

I found that interview with Dave Patchett in an edition of Terrorizer, (don't know if you get that over there), and he did put Diana Ross in The Carnival Bizarre painting. He also added the Pope which I think would be the old guy at the bottom left. I also think he painted Adam & Eve, Nosferatu and Matthew Hopkins, see if you can find them and you might agree as I'm only guessing on those.

Also noticed that Endtyme has a variant Patchett painting, The copy I have has the regular Stephen O'Malley design.

We recently had a documentary on BBC 2 called the Italian Death Metal Murders which had appearances by Glenn Benton, Dissection and my favourite pig head throwing fiends Mayhem. I often find documentaries and books a poor representation of the scenes and bands as they still continue to look at the corrupting influences it has on impressionable kids and those with no minds of their own.

Thanks for the post Alden. Have to admit that all of those bands except Cruachan are new to me.

As the years have passed the amount of really extreme bands I like has lessened, whether I'm mellowing or just find that most are too derivative I'm not sure but Cryptopsy are one of the exceptions. This band still does it for me and they are the creators of my favourite ever fucked up riff which can be heard on 'Voice of Unreason'.

Here's 'Crown of Horns'

Haven't heard the Muse song yet, the video was played but missed it. Good call on Khanate btw.

Time for some Brazilian Death Metal from Krisiun. They had one of the most strangely mixed albums I've ever heard where the drums had been put right up front and tried to drown out everything else.
