Thanks Hunter... that was very nice to say. Here is the latest news on Nightwish, and they are still holding out the name of the "secret" new vocalist, which I revealed several days ago in this thread as Vibeke Stene, formerly of Tristania.

NIGHTWISH's U.S. tour kick-off on October 15 at Jaxx in West Springfield, Virginia has officially sold out five and a half months in advance. Support at the show will come from PARADISE LOST.

NIGHTWISH leader Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) recently told Finland's Soundi magazine that the band has finished mixing four songs for the group's upcoming album — NIGHTWISH's first to feature the band's new singer, whose identity has not yet been revealed. Only 30 people (all of whom have personal and business ties to NIGHTWISH) have been told the name of NIGHTWISH's new vocalist and have been sworn to secrecy in order to maintain the element of surprise when the new lineup is officially unveiled on May 30.

According to Holopainen, the upcoming NIGHTWISH album, which is due in September, will include a 14-minute song entitled "The Poet and the Pendulum" featuring the following lyrics in the chorus: "I cannot cry / 'Cause the shoulder cries more / I cannot die / I, the whore for the cold world."

NIGHTWISH will release a new single, entitled "Eva", on May 30. "Eva" will be an Internet-only single release, all profits from which shall be donated to charity. In Finland, the single will be available exclusively from NetAnttila. The new singer's identity will be revealed simultaneously in a press statement and on the band's web site, http://www.nightwish.com, on Wednesday, May 30. A radio promo of the Internet single will ship on the same day.

The sixth NIGHTWISH album will be released on September 26, preceded by a second, regular single release in August.

NIGHTWISH fired its original singer, Tarja Turunen, via an "open letter," which was given to the singer immediately following their final concert together, which took place on October 21, 2005 at the Hartwall arena in Helsinki, Finland. The Helsinki show was filmed and recorded for the "End of an Era" DVD and CD, which entered the German chart at a No. 3 and has been certified gold for sales in excess of 25,000 copies.

I can't wait! I have a feeling who ever it is, nightwish will offer up another round of greatness. And Vibeke Stene would do much better than Tarja Turunen anyhow...

Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat is reporting that NIGHTWISH has already chosen a replacement for singer Tarja Turunen, but the band is carefully guarding her identity. However, according to Ilta-Sanomat, the new vocalist is none other than former TRISTANIA frontwoman Vibeke Stene.

There are a number of signs pointing to the fact that Vibeke is Tarja's replacement in NIGHTWISH. For example, influential European music business person Frank Stroebele (manager for WITHIN TEMPTATION and ANASTACIA) recently asked an Ilta-Sanomat reporter, "Have you heard who the new singer of NIGHTWISH is? I understand that it is Vibeke."

Vibeke quit TRISTANIA last month "due to personal reasons," making the timing of her departure perfect if she were to join NIGHTWISH.

However, the only public information about the new vocalist that has come out of the NIGHTWISH camp so far has been offered by the group's manager, Ewo Pohjola (a.k.a. Ewo Rytkönen) of King Foo Entertainment. "She is getting along very well with the guys," he said. "She is very talented, clever and sweet."

Well.... it turns out that Vibeke Stene was offered the job but turned it down to remain with Tristania.

Finnish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH have recruited 35-year-old Swedish singer Anette Blyckert (a.k.a. Anette Olzon) to replace Tarja Turunen. A photo of the new vocalist can be found here. A short video "greeting" from Anette is available for download at this location (MPEG, 5 MB).

Regarding her musical background, Anette said, "I was raised in a musical family and I've been singing since childhood. My mom also forced me to play the oboe for 8 years! I toured constantly with my mom and her band in my childhood, sometimes I even sang on stage with them.

"After I turned 13, I started competing in several talent shows. I joined my first real band when I was 17, it was a cover band and all the other musicians were older than me. After playing cover songs, I joined a band called ALYSON AVENUE, first just as a studio singer, later as their leading lady. We've released 2 albums since 2000.

"At the age of 21, I played the leading role in a rock opera/musical called 'Gränsland' in Helsingborg. After that I got in to the Balettakademien in Gothenburg. In addition to the already mentioned, I've been in several other bands over the years, I've sung in choirs, done studio work for various projects and I've even occasionally been a wedding singer. Recently I sang a duet with Michael Bormann (ex-JADED HEART singer) on his album 'Conspiracy'. During my singing career I've sung nearly every kind of music that there is!

"In my earlier days I took singing lessons at the Copenhagen Music Conservatorie, in Helsingör, Denmark with a private teacher. Nowadays, when its needed, I take lessons from a private teacher at the Malmö Music University."

Interesting… Can’t wait to hear the new album, and see the vids that spawn from it. Hopefully there won’t be too much oboe involved. Thanks for the update F~

Terrorizer mag printed an April Fools gag in which they claimed that opera diva Sarah Brightman was the new Nightwish singer. I almost fell for it until they also said they were changing their name to Brightwish. Seeing as she was married to one of the Lloyd-Webbers and Nightwish have covered a Lloyd-Webber song or two it could of made sense.

Anyway, just about at the opposite end of the metal spectrum lurk Cephalic Carnage who have a new album out called Xenosapien.

Did anyone go to maryland Deathfest this weekend? I really wanted to go but I couldn't afford it. I was all excited to see Gut, Nunwhore Commando 666, Cock And Ball Torture, Gorerotted, & Saprogenic but I missed it.

Saw this documentary last night. Surprisingly good film I thought - well worth watching for any metal fans if you get a chance to see it (and non-metal and/or documentary fans).
Just came out on dvd in the US today I think?? So don't know if it's available elsewhere (unless you try other methods Wink)

The website has a trailer and other info (check out the cast section)...

"Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks From He Who Is in the Water"

Quite possibly the greatest song title ever!  It's Nile of course:
