That would've been me. I know Tristania are releasing a new album in the New Year as well so we'll see who wins the 3rd album battle. I thought their first albums after the Veland split - Tristania's World of Glass and Sirenia's At Sixes and Sevens - were top quality but both bands follow ups were a bit underwhelming.

Keep reading that The Sins of Thy Beloved are supposed to be recording again but not heard any evidence yet....

Saw this documentary last night. Surprisingly good film I thought - well worth watching for any metal fans if you get a chance to see it (and non-metal and/or documentary fans).
Just came out on dvd in the US today I think?? So don't know if it's available elsewhere (unless you try other methods Wink)

The website has a trailer and other info (check out the cast section)...
http://www.metalhistory.com/

I finally saw it a couple of weeks ago...very informative and entertaining. Thumbs up!

Although this is likely to change a few months into 2007 when I get round to buying untried bands, here is my top 10 for 2006, be it metal or otherwise:

10 Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue - Kayo Dot
Somewhere Along the Highway - Cult Of Luna
Home - The Gathering
Acoustic Verses - Green Carnation
Every Red Heart Shines Towards the Red Sun - Red Sparowes
In the Absence of Truth - Isis
Desiderata - Madder Mortem
Maaaet - Tenhi
Volk - Laibach

Blood Mountain - Mastodon
Brilliantly insane with IMHO the best drummer on the planet.

Great work guys and thank you for keeping this thing going when I was away.

Some metal news written by me with info from various sources:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ozzy Osbourne and his cunt wife Sharon announced earlier this week that this summer's Ozzfest 2007 will be free to all attendees. Reports are that the band System Of A Down, which headlined last years festival, demended and received a sum of $325,000 per show. Sources within the Ozzy camp say that these kinds of demands from current bands nearly crippled the festival. This year, all bands will get no pay for their performances, sponsors will cover the ticket money, and seven dollar frozen burritos, thirty dollar t-shirts, and five dollar bottled water will cover the festival's day to day expenses. Rumors are rampant across the web, with most people guessing that the bands that will agree to play for free will be of far less quality than in years past. We’ll see…

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heaven And Hell — the band consisting of guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, vocalist Ronnie James Dio and drummer Vinny Appice. Original drummer Bill Ward declined to do the tour due to personal and health reasons. H&H kicks off their world tour on March 11th in Vancouver. The March 30th date, which will be held at New York’s Madison Square Garden, sold out in less than 45 minutes, and pollstar magazine recently placed the tour on the top of their Top 50 tours for 2007, ranked by popularity and ticket sales.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 2007 Inferno Metal Festival is scheduled for April 5th-7th in Oslo Norway. Some of the top bands that have confirmed are:

Sodom
Immortal
Zyklon
Suffocation
Sabbat
God Dethroned
Dark Funeral
Tiamat
Moonspell
Hecate Enthroned
Anaal Nathrakh
Brutal Truth

Sam Dunn is currently filming a sequel to the Metal: A Headbanger's Journey documentary. Only this time it will be based in Europe.

I am in love with Tarja Turunen(Nightwish) I had never even heard of them until i was searching for some gothic metal to use as a BKG for another vid. Next thing I know I've got tons of tunes and some nice HQ vids. Not only is this band soothingly relaxing, they fucken' rock!

HQ Nemo music vid, good if your not in a rush. I got about 100Kbs and it's a 95.4MB vid.

Tarja Turunen was fired by Nightwish over six months ago. Although the band is keeping the new vocalist a secret, I have learned that it will be former Tristania singer Vibeke Stene.

I hate to piss in anyone's Wheaties but all that gloom and doom, hail Satan, viscera-laden, generally Scandinavian fungus that's blighted the music world for so long is but an insignificant pimple on the asshole of the God Almighty...Melvins! (keep in mind, due to their generally underground/indie career there aren't many real videos. The first is some dude's roadtrip set to the band's music).

hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ic6l3KZFYI    Melvins "Revolve" and "Skweetis" from "Stoner Witch"

hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_A6E6MPNG4   Melvins "Honey Bucket" from "Stoner Witch"

hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMm8vkFJrZE   Heavy in their own right, Mastodon, giving just props, doing "The Bit" by Melvins.
(for some reason, the links were coming up malformed so you'll have to do it by hand)
